Youth Birding Scholarship for 2025

The San Mateo County Bird Alliance is pleased to announce three youth scholarships, available to two students aged 13-17 and one community college student aged 18-22, to attend the Central Valley Bird Symposium https://www.cvbirds.org/events/symposium/. The Symposium dates are November 20-23, 2025. This scholarship will encourage youth to pursue their interests in birds, the natural world, conservation, and education.

The scholarship was made possible by donations to the San Mateo County Bird Alliance Scholarship Fund.

This scholarship is open to students aged 13-22 who reside in or attend middle/high school, or community college in San Mateo County. It will cover the cost of registration for the Central Valley Bird Symposium, up to three nights' lodging at the Hilton Stockton Hotel, four banquet tickets, and Symposium-provided breakfasts and lunches for the recipient. Scholarship recipients will also receive a year’s membership to San Mateo County Bird Alliance.

Students must complete an application (bit.ly/sasscholarship) that includes an essay and letter of recommendation from a teacher or adult mentor. Here is a worksheet (bit.ly/sasworksheet) of the application that the applicant can use before submitting the digital application form. It will allow the applicant to see the essay prompt and the link to the letter of recommendation (bit.ly/sasrecommendation) to provide to the recommender in advance.

The deadline to apply is FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 19, 2025.

San Mateo County, Ca -- Sequoia Audubon is pleased to announce one youth scholarship for a student age 13-17 to attend the American Birding Associations' Camp Colorado  June 23-30, 2024.  (aba.org/camp-colorado-june-23-30-2024) This scholarship will encourage youth to pursue their interests in birds, the natural world, conservation and education.  

The scholarship was made possible by donations to the Sequoia Audubon Scholarship Fund. To contribute to this fund click here and enter "scholarship fund" in the comments section on the last page.

This scholarship is open to students ages 13-17 residing or attending school in San Mateo County.  It will cover the cost of registration for the American Birding Associations' Camp Colorado ($1895), ABA YB eMember membership ($15), and a travel stipend to cover costs to/from Colorado ($500).  Scholarship recipients will also receive a year's membership to Sequoia Audubon Society.
