Field Trip Report

Hawk Hill, Marin Headlands
October 2, 2014
Leader: Robbie Fischer

Ten participants enjoyed the spectacle of migrating raptors at Hawk Hill in
the Marin headlands on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014. It was sunny and breezy, a
perfect day for hawks to fly. We had distant views of Broad-winged Hawk, a
close encounter with a subadult Golden Eagle and many Sharp-shinned and
Cooper's Hawks. We also spotted Northern Harriers, Red-shouldered and
Red-tailed Hawks, a couple American Kestrels and many Turkey Vultures. The
Golden Gate Raptor Observatory tallied 12 species and 129.5 hawks per hour
for the day.
